Politics Is Broken…
...Together, We Can Fix It!

Poll After Poll tells us politics is broken. I spoke to around 300 people on the doorstep about the 4th July 2024 General Election.

I asked people if the voted. If they didn't I asked why not - people had a "laundry list" of reasons why not.

Of those that voted, i asked them what they thought about the party they voted for, you can imagine the response.

Based on my doorstep conversations, I would say between 10 and 20 percent of people feel the political elite know what they are doing.

The Bad News…
...is, the large majority of problems we face as a society is a direct result of bad policy.

The Good News…
...is, it is fixable. There are three key factors for policy failure:

First, very few parliamentarians understand how the real world works. As somebody told me recently, most politicians start their career during freshers week. Possibly. But, they simply have no real life experience.

Second, parliamentarians don’t understand the basics of human nature.

Third, parliamentarians in general and ministers in particular don’t understand how the machinery of government works..

Specifically, if you don’t understand a problem, be definition, you can’t fix it.

It’s a bit like asking a plumber to fix your car – he doesn’t have the right tools or training…

But, I believe that if politicians are given the answers, they will do it.

Particularly if public opinion is behind the policy.
